NELSON CARES GENERAL FUND
Your donation to Nelson CARES Society is an investment in your community, a gift to its future. For almost 50 years our organization has introduced innovative and responsive programs to meet the needs of people in the West Kootenay region. Your dollars will go to support our programs that house the homeless, counsel people in crisis, create wellness programs for seniors, promote justice, build affordable housing, and much more. Every donation brings us closer to our goal of an inclusive, more just community. Thank you for sharing that vision with us.

ADVOCACY CENTRE
The Advocacy Centre is a non-profit, community-based service which provides legal information, education and problem solving for low-income residents of the West Kootenays. We also provide specialized assistance to victims of relationship violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Our advocacy services are offered free of charge.

EMERGENCY HOUSING SERVICES
Homelessness can happen to anyone. It can be caused by losing a job, domestic problems or mental health issues. A vulnerable person can be pushed into a housing crisis overnight. We provide hot meals, a warm, dry bed and safety to hundreds of Kootenay residents every year. Most people just need a chance to regroup, to gather their resources, and get a hand up for a few weeks to return to independent living. Others return more often seeking shelter. In both cases, we help people find resources for financial, medical and housing needs, providing the essentials so they can rebuild their lives.
KOOTENAY SENIORS
Kootenay Seniors operates much needed programs in the community. The Transportation Program provides transportation information support and the Volunteer Driver program offers a customized, low-cost transportation option for seniors in the West Kootenay, including rural areas. The Home Support Program enables people to stay in their homes longer by providing light housekeeping services. Both programs allow seniors to stay active and engaged within their community.

READY FOR HOME
To help Ward Street Place (WSP) tenants maintain their housing, Nelson CARES created Ready for Home. This program offers wrap-around support to individuals who are often coping with challenges to maintain their housing. The goal of this program is to disrupt the cycle of homelessness by working one-on-one with
individuals while in a safe and stable housing environment. WSP is home to an increasing number of senior and palliative individuals with many on the waiting list also falling into that demographic.
