Project Description
NORTH SHORE INN
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
In 2022, BC Housing purchased the North Shore Inn (NSI) for use as supportive housing. Supportive housing is subsidized rental housing with on-site supports for single adults, seniors, and people with disabilities at risk of or experiencing homelessness. These supports help people maintain stable housing.
BC Housing has placed temporary modular housing units on the site while renovations are completed in the main building. The modular housing provides 28 homes with supports.
Residents each have their own unit, with shared dining, bathroom and laundry facilities. Nelson CARES staff are on-site 24/7 to provide support, including meals, life skills training and connections to health care and other resources.
You may be eligible for supportive housing at the North Shore Inn if you:
- Are a low-income single adult
- Are homeless or at risk of homelessness
- Require supportsĀ to live independently
- Require support to maintain a successful tenancy
How to Apply
Submit an application to the Supportive Housing Registration Service through BC Housing:
https://www.bchousing.org/housing-assistance/housing-with-support/supportive-housing
Vacancies are filled using the Coordinated Access to Accommodation process. Through this process, Nelson CARES works with BC Housing and other local community agencies to select tenants from the community who meet the criteria for Supportive Housing. Potential applicants complete a Vulnerability Assessment (VAT) which is used not only to assess individuals but also to generate information about gaps in the system which may guide and inform future systems change.
